Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Nigeria striker Victor Boniface will remain with the club for the upcoming season. Boniface, who had been linked with a move to AlNassr in Saudi Arabia including reports of a completed medical and a potential €70million fee has ended speculation by returning to training with the Bundesliga champions after their 20 win over Sparta Prague.

Alonso expressed relief and optimism following the transfer collapse, stating "He trains with us again … Im happy that he stays. He feels comfortable, and he will continue competing for his place." The coach also confirmed Leverkusen have no plans to sign a replacement striker this window.

Despite the high-profile interest, Alonso downplayed any tension, adding that Boniface is settled and focused on fighting for his role in the squad. The 24 year old joins the team ahead of a key Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim this weekend.

We welcome the clarity that comes with this decision. At a time when clubs often prioritise quick profit over continuity, Leverkusens commitment to retaining Boniface speaks volumes. Not only does this signal faith in his talent, but it reinforces a culture of especially important as they gear up for another season at Europes top level.

Boniface brings more than just goals he offers potential. Despite injury woes last term, his return promises to re-energise the strike force alongside Patrik Schick. The failed AlNassr move may well have been a blessing in disguise instead of chasing a lucrative exit, he refocuses on sporting ambition under Alonsos guidance.

Theres also a wider message for the Super Eagles faithful. Holding onto one of Nigerias brightest talents shows that homegrown players can thrive at the very top. Its a reaffirmation that Europe remains the premium platform for development and recognition where loyalty and performance often speak louder than money alone.

Leverkusens stance is bold and we believe it's the right one. By keeping Boniface, they maintain squad strength, send a message of intent, and create a platform for him to prove his worth. This season, let every goal reaffirm their decision and his belief.
